Mr. Henry Rivers Obituary

Mr. Henry Lee Rivers, 74 years old of Ridgeland, South Carolina, passed on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, South Carolina.

He spent his childhood years in Ridgeland, South Carolina. During his teenage years, he joined the Job Corp and spent time in California. After a brief stay in Job Corp, he resided in New York City with his aunts Emma Jean (Ricky) Frazier and Queen Ester Gregory. He worked as a landscaper until 1969 where he met and married his wife of 52 years, Barbara Ann Frazier Rivers. They lived in Jersey City, New Jersey where he worked at Bierman-Everett Iron Foundry in Irvington, New Jersey. They were blessed with three children, Henry Scott, Kenneth John and Dyanne Monique and raised two boys, Clyde and Corey Wade of New York City. Henry held the following jobs at Colgate-Palmolive Co., Naval Distribution Center, Military Ocean Terminal Bayonne, New Jersey and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. After his retirement from the Gallery, they moved to Ridgeland, South Carolina, where they resided.

Henry gave his life to Christ at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Jersey City, New Jersey. Henry and his daughter were baptized the same day at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Henry was an active member where he participated in the Transportation Ministry for Sunday School, Church Service and the Children’s Ministry. He was appointed to the Trustee Board and later ordained as a deacon at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in May 1992. Deacon Rivers and his wife moved to Ridgeland, South Carolina in 2008. They became a member of New Road Baptist Church Family and he became an active member in Transportation Ministry, Male Chorus and the Missionary. Deacon Rivers was constantly on the move during good health and in sickness. Many times, he would walk from home to the town of Ridgeland and back, and then he limited his walks to around the house during his sickness. Henry Lee, as most friends and family would call him.

He leaves to cherish his memories: His wife Barbara; his sons Henry Scott and Kenneth John; and his daughter Dyanne Monique; Clyde and Corey Wade; his grandchildren, Javon Scott, Devon Malik and William Randall, JayLin, JayQwon and Jayda Rivers, Janiyah Maykayla Rivers and Jalaiah Mack; a great granddaughter, Justice Rivers, two daughters-in-law, Nakeesha Rivers and Katrina Rivers; one brother, Frank (Joanne) Fields, ; two sisters, Bette (Willie Sr.) Smith, and Marilyn (Melvin) Swinger, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 06, 2021 at Grahamville Cemetery in Ridgeland, South Carolina at 11:00AM

IN LIGHT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC; it is being recommended by the South Carolina Morticians Association Inc., to encourage families to have a graveside service with a small gathering of family and friends!
